Meet Lesley
Lesley's story
“Being a Red Angel is a small way to say thank you for Life Flight’s professionalism, care, and efficiency at critical moments in our life. Every bit that we can contribute helps provide an ongoing service, and the stories in the newsletters are a testament to the amazing work of everyone involved.
My husband and I became Red Angels after using Life Flight following an accident back in 1995. An oncoming truck jack-knifed across the road, the cab hitting us and sending us rolling down the bank and into Taupo Swamp. Thanks to many emergency services, we could be located and tended to before the Life Flight crew flew us to Wellington Hospital. Suffering major injuries, I am glad to say we were able to live to tell the tale.
My eldest son and his friend were caught in a whiteout whilst tramping in the Tararua Ranges. They were 24 hours overdue, so we called 111. Peter Button flew out to search for them. Luckily, they had found a stream and were following it out. Initially resisting Peter’s attempt to rescue them, Peter gave them the steel hanky, and they were dropped in Trentham safe and sound.
There are lots of reasons to be thankful for. I have recently updated my Will to include a small bequest to Life Flight as my way of helping the wonderful service continue.”
