Isaac was just a week old when he needed lifesaving surgery
Isaac was just a week old when he needed lifesaving surgery. Thanks to kind people like you, Life Flight was there.
Adelle was basking in the joy of her first week as a new mum. Baby Isaac was feeding, sleeping, and thriving, and she felt like she was “nailing this newborn thing.” But everything changed in an instant.
What started as a relaxing trip to the local café turned into a nightmare when Isaac began doing little “hiccups.” Adelle’s instincts told her something was wrong, and, slightly panicky, she took him to Lower Hutt Hospital. As they arrived, Isaac had a severe seizure.
Suddenly, the world around Adelle spun into chaos. The hospital went into full emergency mode. Adelle remembers, “I heard the announcement over the intercom, and suddenly there were doctors everywhere, getting him hooked up to machines and checking him out.”
Isaac’s condition was critical. Doctors later told Adelle there had been a 90% chance of a fatal brain bleed. He needed emergency surgery, and the only place it could happen was in Auckland.
The only option was a Life Flight air ambulance.
In less than an hour, Isaac and Adelle were taking off on a Life Flight Air Ambulance – a flight only made possible because of kind people like you. They arrived in Auckland just before midnight, and by morning, Isaac was in surgery.
This festive season, at least 50 babies and children like Isaac will need to be flown to critical care. Will you give the gift of an emergency flight that could save their life?
